11 Oct The importance of safety in newborn photography
Today we are going to be discussing a topic very close to our hearts; the importance of safety in newborn photography and why it is so vital to choose a professional newborn photographer.
Experience
Having the necessary skills to carefully and safely pose your newborn takes years of experience and practice. This is why it’s so essential to prioritise choosing a professional photographer who is specifically trained in newborn photography. Safety will always be our top priority when posing your baby in a beautiful way. We understand how delicate and precious your newborn is and will use our skills to gently and safely handle them throughout the entire studio session.
As a mother of three, our professional newborn photographer knows what a privilege it is to hold and pose your treasured little one and will treat your newborn as if they were her own; with the utmost care and respect.
Training
As a new parent, handing your child over to someone new for the first time can be a nerve-wracking experience! We understand this and have experience in soothing and comforting your baby if need be. We will never force your child into a position that they are not comfortable with; we will use our creativity to pose your child in a way to create a stunning image that will put their comfort first.
Our photographer is a fully accredited member of the AIPP (Australian Institute of Professional Photographers) as a professional newborn photographer and has undergone professional training in how to safely handle your newborn, so you can feel secure and reassured knowing your child is in safe hands.
Insurance
When choosing a photographer for your newborn session, it is important to make sure that in addition to being accredited and experienced in newborn photography, that they also have appropriate insurance in place, as we do at Embellish Photography.
Professional environment
We have a wide range of props and accessories such as prop pillows, blankets and soft throws to keep your baby safely posed and comfortable. Our photographer is highly experienced in carefully setting up your newborn’s set and positioning them precisely so that they look beautiful as well as being secure. Special attention will be taken to ensure that your baby’s delicate head and neck are supported at all times. Your baby should never be supporting the weight of their own head, so to create poses such as these, we will create a composite image by stitching together multiple images in Photoshop.
Prior to your arrival we will make sure our environment is clean, safe and warm with the use of heating to keep your newborn’s temperature stable. Our photographer will check at regular intervals throughout the shoot that your baby’s temperature is kept consistently warm for their safety and comfort.
Safety first!
It is important that safety is the first priority in your photographer’s mind. There are inexperienced photographers within the industry who will offer low quality newborn photography at discounted prices who do not have the necessary experience to safely handle your child. Please ensure that you thoroughly research your newborn photographer and prioritise your child’s safety over price; you do not want to regret choosing a photographer who will put your child’s safety at risk.
We ensure your newborn is never left alone or put into a position where they could roll or fall, having a ‘spotter’ or parent close by if need be. A hand or finger can also be used to hold your baby in place and removed later by working our magic in Photoshop.
Our photographer will always use a camera strap if taking photos from above and your baby will always be positioned in a prop on the ground, on a soft throw rug for safety.
